Parenting Assessment

(Formerly Custody/ Assessment)

Navigating parenting disputes can be complex and emotionally taxing for families. At Ontario Family Solutions, we provide balanced and impartial assessments focusing on contact, parenting time and decision making, designed to best support the court system in making child-centred and family-oriented decisions. Our thorough and comprehensive evaluations consider parental capacity, family dynamics, and the unique needs of your child to ensure their best interests remain the priority.

We conduct in-depth interviews, home visits, parent-child observation visits, personal and professional collateral follow up contacts and psychological evaluations (as needed) to assess each parent’s ability to provide a stable and nurturing environment for the child. Our assessments provide a clear and unbiased report that helps facilitate fair and informed legal decisions.

Parenting (Custody/Access) Assessment – Private custody and access assessments/evaluations will be charged at a rate of $250 per hour (+ HST). A set travel fee will be charged for interviews at parent’s homes or the child’s school. A parent can expect that an assessment typically takes a minimum of 40-60 hours, but this is dependent on each case and will inevitably go longer with more children and a bigger family network (i.e., blended families on both sides, parents with new partners). If parent interviews are longer, they tend to communicate often or send a high volume of information to review; then more time is required. If a family has a lot of involved personal collaterals and professionals, then it will typically take more time to obtain, review and summarize this information. Time is also required to review legal documentation and other documentation (e.g., parent emails, texts, social media, etc.). In order to commence the assessment process, a retainer up front fee of $8,000 is required. Parents usually pay through Interac e-transfer but they may also choose to pay by Bank draft, Certified cheque, major Credit cards or can use our 0% interest payment plan option (as indicated in our website). Parents may agree to equally split the cost of the Parenting assessment or they may mutually agree to share the cost in another manner (e.g., proportional to income, one parent paying for all of it). The percentage each parent will pay for the cost of the Parenting assessment will be noted in the Retainer agreement.
